Jim began his legal career at an insurance defense firm, representing parties that were being sued for their negligence. Although the insured party was the actual client, he was working for the insurance company who hired him to represent their insured. From this experience, Jim learned all the insurance company’s tricks that they use to get out of paying claims. He saw his time representing insurance companies as the perfect training ground to learn how to practice law. A few years later, he had the opportunity to represent a large group of people who were wanting to sue a huge oil company who had contaminated their drinking water, and he never looked back. Since then, Jim has devoted his practice to representing the little guy against big corporations.
Along the way, Jim represented several large companies and developed an expertise in counseling those who want to start businesses or grow their current businesses. He educated himself on all the ins and outs of obtaining financing, purchasing appropriate insurance, and creating businesses for untapped markets.
Six years ago, Jim started a volunteer organization called Conviction Yoga, that goes into the prisons of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and teaches yoga to the inmates. Conviction Yoga is now in eight central Texas prisons, providing intelligent rehabilitation for those who society has forgotten.
Jim has spent the last few years watching business trends in Austin and realized that the Hispanic community is sorely underrepresented in our community. His mission is to assist the Hispanic community by giving them strong legal representation, allowing them to compete equally in the legal system and the Austin economy.
